This update is pertinent to all courses taught by this instructor.

Update -- Grading and Class Procedures

The following percentage calculations have replaced the originals for their class

syllabi:

10th Grade General Literature and American Literature

40% Classwork assignments

40% Tests and Quizzes combined

20% Notebook check

The following comprised the previous percentage calculations:

20% Classwork assignments

20% Tests

20% Quizzes

20% Notebook check

The revised rubric takes into account the ratio of classwork to tests and quizzes, but students are expected to continue to appreciate the importance of test grades and to consider classwork a means by which to study and practice for tests.

Students from all courses will have the opportunity to make up work from the first quarter of class ONLY, due to the school's not having yet acquired the Headmaster program for online grade display.

Tests and Quizzes can be retaken at any time for a maximum grade of 90, which will then be averaged with the previous grade for an overall average test or quiz grade.

Students should see the instructor after school to discuss make-up exams or make-up classwork so that no class time will be occupied by discussion of material already covered.

SAT Preparatory Course:

In order to allow students to focus on their potential scores for the SAT, grades for the test preparatory course will be calculated on a pass/fail, participation basis.

70-100: Pass

69-0: Fail

Students submit one paragraph summary of their preparatory activities per every 2 block class period.

For every date that a student does not turn in a summary, a participation grade of 0 is assessed.

If a student is absent for a given class period, he or she must study for approximately half an hour at home and submit a summary of those activities to provide a make-up participation grade for the day missed.
